Teen arrested on suspicion of attempted first degree murder after shooting in Capitol Hill

A teen has been arrested on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder after a shooting on Sunday in Capitol Hill, according to the Denver Police Department.

Abdulla Jele Mugoya, 18, was arrested after a short foot pursuit on Sunday and is facing an attempted first-degree murder charge, a class two felony punishable by up to 48 years in prison, according to a Tuesday update on X. 

The shooting happened at East 12th Avenue and Lincoln Street, police reported at 3:32 a.m. Sunday. One victim, an adult male, was found suffering from a gunshot wound and taken to the hospital. Police believe there was an altercation between Mugoya and the victim prior to the shooting.

The victim is expected to survive his injuries, according to police.
