POMONA — JR Todd took the No. 1 qualifying spot in Funny Car for Kalitta Motorsports on Saturday at the 66th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals, at the In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip.
Leah Pruett was the top qualifier in Top Fuel for Tony Stewart Racing and Greg Anderson led the field in Pro Stock going into today’s eliminations.
Todd made a pass of 3.896 seconds with a top speed of 335.32 mph to take the No. 1 position heading into today’s action. It’s Todd’s first time qualifying at the top position since the 2021 season.
“I knew the performance was going to come around,” Todd saidRon Capps made a run of 3.919 seconds at 330.88 mph to qualify No. 2 and Jordan Vandergriff posted a run of 3.925 seconds and 329.99 mph to secure the third position.
Todd will face Blake Alexander in the first round today. Capps will face Dylan Winefsky and Vandergriff will face Daniel Wilkerson.
Pruett led the field in Top Fuel qualifying, with her Friday pass of 3.724 seconds at 329.75 mph holding up. Josh Hart is the No. 2 qualifier with a time of 3.733 seconds at 336.15 mph and Shawn Langdon is third at 3.745 seconds and 338.51 mph.
Hart will face Cameron Ferre in the first round of eliminations. Langdon will face Tony Schumacher.
Anderson remained atop Pro Stock qualifying, posting a time of 6.516 seconds at 209.69 mph. In the third qualifying session on Saturday, Dallas Glenn took the No. 2 spot at 6.525 seconds and 208.55 mph. Dave Connolly was third at 6.536 seconds and 209.75 mph.
Kalitta wins Top Fuel Challenge
Doug Kalitta defeated Maddie Gordan to win the 2Fast2Tasty NHRA Top Fuel Challenge on Saturday, posting a 3.747-second run at 333.66 mph. Kalitta defeated Pruett in the first round with a run of 3.987 seconds at 234.49 mph. Kalitta won five 2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenges last season.
“Winning these things on Saturday is huge momentum for everybody on our team,” Kalitta said.
Matt Hagan defeated Paul Lee in the final to win the 2Fast2Tasty NHRA Funny Car Challenge with a run of 3.940 seconds at 329.58 mph.“It’s one of those things where it’s a race inside of a race,” Hagan said. “I hope I haven’t used all my adrenaline.”
Dallas Glenn beat Aaron Stanfield in the 2Fast2Tasty NHRA Pro Stock Challenge with a run of 6.525 seconds at 208.55 mph.
