Two killed after car ploughs through group of cyclists on country road in Kent

Witnesses are sought following a double fatal collision in Cobham near Gravesend.

Police said a white Ford Focus was travelling in a south westerly direction along Sole Street towards Meopham, when it hit three cyclists.

Paramedics scrambled to the junction with Round Street where two of the riders, a man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s, were declared dead.

Their next of kin have been informed. The third cyclist was taken to a local hospital for treatment to injuries described as minor.

Two men aged 20 and 21 were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

A 19-year-old woman was also detained on suspicion of assisting an offender.

The road was closed while an investigation was completed and officers from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are now appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, or saw the car or cyclists prior to the collision, to contact them.
