UCLA women’s basketball player Emily Bessoir announced in a social media post Friday that she is leaving the Bruins.
“Words can’t describe how much the last four years have meant to me,” Bessoir wrote in the post. “I am overwhelmed by the support, generosity and love I received while playing, being injured and while being myself outside of basketball.”
A spokesperson for UCLA women’s basketball confirmed that Bessoir is not entering the transfer portal. Bessoir is expected to graduate in June, then return to Germany with hopes of competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics. No information was provided regarding Bessoir’s remaining college eligibility.
“To the entire Bruin family, thank you for welcoming me with open arms (and a mask) in 2020,” she wrote, “and thank you for making Westwood a home away from home. Once a Bruin, always a Bruin.”
She missed all of the 2021-22 season and most of the 2023-24 season due to ACL injuries. She played in all 37 games in 2022-23 and averaged 9.4 points and 5.8 rebounds.

While injured this season, Bessoir focused on art and even hosted an art show alongside teammate Izzy Anstey in March.
Without the two 6-foot-4 seniors – Anstey retired from playing in February after an injury-riddled career – the Bruins were a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament and reached the Elite Eight, where they fell to LSU. Their talented sophomore class is slated to return next season.
