We salute the immense courage of Met cops who took down sword-wielding maniac in London

Sword heroes

FOR all the deserved recent criticism of the Met Police, we can only salute the immense courage of the cops who took down the London sword maniac.

Our hearts go out to all the victims — but especially the family of the poor lad killed as he set out for school. Their loss is horrific and unimaginable.

Were it not for those officers, though, we might be mourning multiple deaths.

Two cops were slashed during 21 minutes of terror before their colleagues incapacitated and disarmed the killer.

Questions about his mental health history and any previous dealings with the police need urgent answers.

For now let us admire the heroism of officers who raced towards mortal danger.

Woke retreat

FOR years “cancel culture” has been deployed by the sanctimonious Left to intimidate and silence opponents.

Dr Hillary Cass wrote a report on the increased trend of minors wanting to change genderYui Mok / PA Wire

It ranges from social media “pile-ons” to the orchestrated sackings and shaming of anyone opposing wokery.

But a backlash is in full swing.

The Cass report burst the bubble of trans-rights mania. A court crushed the legal assault on the brilliant Michaela School the Left loathes.

Even some in the Labour Party are grudgingly accepting reality now over their past fantasies.

Rishi Sunak rightly considers cancel culture an assault on freedom. Quoting Orwell, he said: “If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.”

That is the essential case for a free Press. But also for ending the modern Left’s fetish for “no-platforming” and destroying people they dislike.

First of many

THE sneering critics said it would never happen. But the first failed asylum-seeker has been flown to Rwanda.

No, he’s not an illegal migrant forcibly deported there. That is still to come.

He is, though, the first sent to a third country for a new life. Indeed he chose it. Which rather proves that Rwanda is safe — and that the planned removals process can work smoothly.

The Left will continue to carp. It’s only one, they’ll say, and he volunteered.

Let’s see them keep it up once hundreds more are removed and the small boat crossings start to dry up.

We all want Grace honoured with a posthumous George Cross for her exceptional bravery trying to protect Barnaby from the killer Valdo Calocane.

Let’s get it done, then, without delay.
