Slot revealed he is keen to succeed the German and is confident the Reds will agree a deal with his current club Feyenoord.

Slot said: “I’d like to become the new Liverpool manager, my decision is clear. It is no secret that I want to go to Liverpool.

“Feyenoord and Liverpool are in talks to negotiate, I’m waiting to see what will come out of it.

“I am confident, waiting for the clubs to reach an agreement.”

Feyenoord are willing to allow Slot to leave but have yet to agree a compensation deal with Liverpool.

The Merseyside club have been offering a package of about £8.5million but they might have to increase that to the £10m mark.

If a deal is agreed Slot could be confirmed as the new Liverpool boss within the next 48 hours.

Slot led Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title last year while the club won the Dutch Cup last weekend.

Slot snubbed Spurs, hates defending and has a PASS named after him

LIVERPOOL managerial target Arne Slot was a good enough player to have a type of pass named after him.

But it is as a manager that the Feyenoord head coach is really making his mark.

Like another bald Dutchman, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, Slot earned his stripes bossing smaller sides before being given a chance at one of the Netherlands’ big three.

But the question Liverpool are pondering is whether Slot would make a better fist of running one of the biggest clubs in the world than Ten Hag so far has at Old Trafford.

Slot, 45, was certainly easier on the eye as a player than centre back Ten Hag.

“The Arne Slot Ball” was something he perfected as a silky No 10 – a back-to-goal, first-time, 180-degree spin and flick behind the defensive line for a winger to run on to deep in the opposition half.

But Feyenoord are on the brink of missing out on the title this season with PSV Eindhoven leading the way after suffering just one league defeat.

Slot has a 64 per cent win record in charge of Feyenoord and previously impressed at AZ Alkmaar, averaging 2.11 points per game in the Eredivisie – the highest of any coach in the club’s history.

Slot was asked about his future by a reporter who was quickly grabbed by security.

Sky Sports journalist Gary Cotterill approached Slot to ask him about his future but was quickly blocked off by a member of the manager’s entourage who grabbed hold of his shoulder and held him away at arm’s length.

Slot smiled as he was quizzed about his future but was reluctant to divulge any information about a Merseyside move.
