Chelsea and Liverpool Eye ‘Astronomical’ Offers for $86M Rising Star

As the Premier League season enters a decisive stretch, several clubs are already turning their attention towards the summer, including Chelsea and Liverpool.

With both sides enduring underwhelming campaigns while battling for Champions League qualification, an aggressive approach in the transfer market appears likely.

According to Caught Offside’s Mark Brus, Chelsea and Liverpool are among several high-profile clubs tracking Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara.

Chelsea and Liverpool Join Race for Monaco Star Lamine Camara

Monaco have a long history of cashing in on their most valuable assets, and Camara could be the latest to command a significant fee, with the club reportedly holding out for what has been described as an “astronomical” offer.

Brus reports that the Ligue 1 side are open to negotiations but would require between $74 million and $86 million to part ways with the 22-year-old.

“Camara’s current contract runs until 2029, with no release clause, giving Monaco full control over negotiations,” he wrote. “There’s no pressure on them to sell, and they’d rather keep him as his value could rise even further.”

After finishing second in 2023-24 and third in 2024-25 to secure a return to the Champions League, Monaco have endured a more challenging Ligue 1 campaign this season.

Despite a six-game winning streak domestically, including an impressive 3-1 away victory over PSG in early March, the Monegasque side currently sit sixth on 46 points.

They remain just three points behind Marseille in third, who occupy the final Champions League qualification spot.

Lamine Camara Emerging as Key Target Despite Monaco’s Mixed Season

Despite Monaco’s inconsistency, Camara has stood out as one of the team’s brightest performers.

The 22-year-old has made 25 appearances across all competitions, registering four assists, while earning a strong 7.51 rating from FotMob.

Camara joined Monaco from Metz in July 2024 for €15 million ($17.2M), signing a five-year contract.

In his debut season, he featured in 40 matches, recording two goals and seven assists. His performances have since elevated his profile both internationally with Senegal and across Europe.

Brus adds that several Premier League midfielders could be on the move this summer, including Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali, and Adam Wharton.

Enzo Fernandez, Mateus Fernandes, and Joao Gomes have also been linked with potential transfers, with some expected to command fees exceeding $114 million.

“Camara stands out as a potentially cheaper option on the market, but with just as much quality,” Brus said. “Despite Monaco’s resistance to being bullied into selling on the cheap, the financial power of Premier League clubs could ultimately bring this saga to an end in England.”

With multiple elite clubs, including Chelsea and Liverpool, circling and Monaco holding firm on their valuation, Camara is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched midfield names heading into the summer window.
