Dan Hurley credits his wife, Andrea Hurley, for making sure UConn did not have a meltdown after Braylon Mullins hit an improbable three against Duke to punch the team’s ticket to the Final Four. Dan went viral for making contact with a referee after the shot.
The UConn coach later explained that his wife, Andrea, made sure the bench did not go onto the court, a decision which could have resulted in a costly technical foul. Dan referred to his wife as the “Jersey Boss Lady” after the coaching assist.
“Yeah, she’s a boss,” Dan said of his wife Andrea, per Fox News’ Scott Thompson. “She’s the Jersey Boss Lady. And her language is colorful, too.
“I mean, she was grabbing people around the back of their warmups. And she doesn’t know anything about basketball, you know?”

Back in 2025, the couple provided some insight into their unique relationship during a “60 Minutes” interview. Dan is obsessed with basketball, as evidenced by some of his antics during games. As for his wife, she admits the sport has been more of an acquired taste.
“I don’t even know what a screen is,” Andrea admitted to “60 Minutes” after explaining how she helps Dan move on after losses. “I don’t even know what that is.”
Dan explained how their relationship is healthy, and Andrea’s lack of basketball prowess allows the UConn coach to decompress.
“She doesn’t know and she’s not playing for the cameras,” Dan responded to his wife’s claim. “She has no idea.
“… And if I was coming home to somebody that wanted to talk about a new lineup, a new defense, rehash the game, my personality type and the way I’m wired, it would never work.”

It is a major achievement for UConn to be headed to their third Final Four in four years. Andrea, who is not a basketball junkie, did not know what the Final Four was before marrying the UConn coach.
“I said to her on the plane, ‘This is wild. Three out of four years, you’re going to the Final Four. Do you ever imagine this with your life,’” Hurley said, per Fox News
“And she’s like, ‘I didn’t even know Final Four existed until four years ago.’”
After Playing 4 Seasons at UConn, Dan & Andrea Hurley’s Son, Andrew Hurley, Is Now on the Coaching Staff
The couple initially met as students at Seton Hall. Andrea and Dan tied the knot in 1997 in Shrewsbury, New Jersey, a fitting place for the “Jersey Boss Lady.”
The couple has two kids: Andrew and Danny. Andrew Hurley played four seasons at UConn under his father, but appeared in limited action. Dan’s son is now on the UConn coaching staff following his playing career.
During a 2023 interview with WTNH News 8, Andrew pointed to his mom, Andrea, as the one in charge of the family. Andrea was more than happy to agree.
“I’m in charge,” Andrea told WTNH News 8 at the time. “I’m 1,000% in charge, and they’re all afraid of me, including the big guy (Dan Hurley).”
