Detroit Pistons Make Cade Cunningham Announcement Before Magic Game

On Monday evening, the Detroit Pistons will be in Florida to take on the Orlando Magic.

The Pistons most recently beat the Philadelphia 76ers by a score of 116-93.

Cade Cunningham did not play in the game, as he has been out since March 17.

For Monday’s game, the Pistons announced an update on Cunningham.

He is now listed as doubtful.

ClutchPoints wrote: “Pistons star Cade Cunningham has been upgraded from out to DOUBTFUL for tonight’s game vs. the Magic, the team has announced.

Cunningham has missed Detroit’s last 10 games after suffering a collapsed lung.”

Cunningham had been in the middle of a fantastic season before suffering the injury.

The former Oklahoma State star is averaging 24.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, 9.9 assists and 1.5 steals per contest while shooting 46.1% from the field and 34.6% from three-point range in 61 games.

The Pistons are coming off a year where reached the NBA playoffs for the first time since 2019.

Right now, they are the first seed in the Eastern Conference with a 57-21 record in 78 games.

Over their last ten games, the Pistons have gone 8-2 (and they have won three in a row).

Following the Magic, they will play their next game on Wednesday night when they return home to host the Milwaukee Bucks.

As for Cunningham, he was the first pick in the 2021 NBA Draft after one season of college basketball.

He has been with the Pistons for all five years of his career.

The 24-year-old has been an All-Star in each of the previous two seasons.

Brad Galli of WXYZ Detroit wrote (on April 2): “Cade Cunningham is making progress in his return from suffering a collapsed lung, and the Pistons plan to re-evaluate the star in one week.

He will miss out on NBA awards, since he’s played 61 games and won’t reach the 65-game rule to qualify for votes. He had certainly earned All-NBA accolades and MVP consideration.”

Magic Right Now

On the other side, the Magic are the ninth seed in the Eastern Conference with a 42-36 record in 78 games.

They have won two in a row (and four out of their last ten).
