Eagles TE Dallas Goedert Owns Crazy Piece of Franchise History

For someone named after one of his greatest NFL rivals, tight end Dallas Goedert has done pretty well by the Philadelphia Eagles.

After an offseason spent watching and waiting for the Eagles to trade him — and taking a pay cut — Goedert has carved out a piece of franchise history by setting the single-season touchdown record for tight end with his 11th touchdown catch in a 13-12 win over the Buffalo Bills in Week 17.

“Dallas Goedert set the franchise record for most receiving TDs by a tight end (11),” Philadelphia SN’s Cory Nidoh wrote on his official X account.

Goedert, who got his first name because his father was a die hard Dallas Cowboys fan, broke a tie with Pete Retzlaff, who had had 10 touchdown receptions in 1965.

In 2025, Goedert has a career high 60 receptions to go with 591 yards and 11 touchdowns with one regular season game remaining when they host the Washington Commanders in Week 18.

Eagles Trying to Clinch No. 2 Seed

The defending Super Bowl champion Eagles have already clinched the NFC East Division title and a spot in the NFC Playoffs.

Goedert’s score came on a 1-yard touchdown pass from Jalen Hurts to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead with 35 seconds left in the first quarter — the only touchdown scored by Philadelphia on a day when freezing rain was a factor and Hurts went 0-of-7 passing in the second half.

“DALLAS GOEDERT IS THE SINGLE GREATEST REDZONE THREAT IN HISTORY OF PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL,” That’s Ball Folks podcast host and Eagles fan Josh Reynolds wrote on his official X account

“The Eagles go 13 personnel on the goalline and then run a PA pass to a wide-open Dallas Goedert,” Eagles Pin Pull’s Shane Haff wrote on his official X account. “Love this!”

“Going back to the start of last season, the Eagles are now 9-2 when Dallas Goedert catches a touchdown,” Eagles fan Drew Balis wrote on X.

“Dallas Goedert is light on his feet in a way nobody 6’5, 256 should be,” Remember The TE’s Max Toscano wrote on X. “Makes him a threat at both TE and every WR spot.”

Incredible Connection Between Retzlaff & Goedert

There is a wild connection linking Retzlaff and Goedert across the ages — the tight ends are both South Dakota State products.

Retzlaff, who died in 2020 at 88 years old, was an All-American for the Jackrabbits in the early 1950s in both football and track and field. Selected by the Detroit Lions in the 22nd round of the 1953 NFL draft but was cut and spent 2 years in the U.S. Army before making the Eagles roster in 1956.

Retzlaff played 11 seasons for the Eagles from 1956 to 1966, winning an NFL championship in 1960 along with being named a 4-time NFL All-Pro and 5-time Pro Bowler. He retired with Eagles franchise records for receptions (452) and receiving yards (7,412) and his No. 44 jersey was retired.

Goedert was a 2-time All-American at South Dakota State in 2016 and 2017 and has 403 receptions for 4,636 yards and 43 touchdowns in 8 NFL seasons. He’s also played in 2 Super Bowls and starred for the Eagles on the way to winning Super Bowl LIX following last season.
