I accidentally leaked my own Man Utd transfer after sending a snap to my village WhatsApp

NEMANJA MATIC has admitted to accidentally leaking his own Manchester United transfer in 2017.

The midfielder joined the Red Devils from Chelsea in a £40million deal.

However, fans knew all about it before it was formally announced after a picture of Matic wearing his new United training shirt circulated on social media.

During an appearance on the Red Devils’ UTD podcast last year, Matic revealed all about how it got out.

And he let slip that it was all his own fault.

He said: “It wasn’t ‘someone’… I took the picture!

“I took it, obviously not to put it on social media, but because I have a [WhatsApp] group with 50 people, more or less, from my village [in Serbia].

“In that group are the guys I grew up with.

“To be honest, they were texting every two minutes [to ask me] ‘Is the deal done? Did you sign?’

“For two days, I didn’t reply to anything. But that day, I woke up and saw 70 messages.

“They sent me reports from newspapers saying the deal was done. So I sent them a selfie.”

Matic added: “I was doing the medical test then and of course, they probably sent it [the selfie] to some friends. The power of social media did the job.”

The deal was eventually announced by Man United the day after his photo leaked.

Matic went on to play 189 times for the Red Devils during his five years at Old Trafford.

He scored four times, including their goal of the season in 2017/18 for an effort against Crystal Palace.

He quit United in 2022 to once again link up with Mourinho, who also managed him at Chelsea, in Roma.

Matic stayed there one season before heading to Rennes in France but he was on the move again last summer as he switched to Lyon, where he has made ten appearances this term.

However, Matic has also dropped a number of other explosive bombshells about United since his departure.

He caused a huge stir by revealing how the standards at United were far lower than at his previous club Chelsea.

Matic then revealed how Paul Pogba and Jadon Sancho were often late to training.

And, one season in particular during his time there, players racked up a whopping £75,000 in fines for lateness.

United legend Gary Neville then took aim at Matic for breaching confidentiality.

He claimed it was the “biggest betrayal in the dressing room” following his “unforgivable” interview.
