Mets Predicted to Land White Sox $75 Million Outfielder in Recent Trade Idea

It’s a little too early to seriously start thinking about trades that will transpire across Major League Baseball, but it’s always fun to speculate about who could potentially be on the move in the summer months.

The New York Mets and Chicago White Sox recently linked up on a blockbuster trade this offseason, with new addition Luis Robert Jr. coming over to Queens in return for Luisangel Acuna. A new trade prediction, proposed by FanSided’s Austin Owens, has the Mets linking up again with the Chicago southsides, but this time for $75 million leftfielder Andrew Benintendi.

Andrew Benintendi received the largest contract ever handed out by the Chicago White Sox before the 2023 season.

Should the Mets Trade for Andrew Benintendi?

Owens cites that Andrew Benintendi is quietly coming off two very solid seasons, which might be enough reason for New York to attempt a deal:

“Benintendi was an All-Star in 2022 and is quietly coming off back-to-back 20 homer seasons. That power has come at the expense of some contact and on-base ability, but adding him to a contending team in need of some more pop like the New York Mets could be a game-changer.”

However, the question of if the Mets should make a move for him is entirely different. The Mets, who are off to a solid start to the 2026 campaign, might want some more time to evaluate what they have in their internal options.

It’s important to note that the Mets sold a lot of their farm system this offseason, and it’s fair to assume the White Sox would be asking for a prospect haul in return for Andrew Benintendi.

Who are the trade assets for the Mets Right Now?

As mentioned, now that MLB is back in full swing, it’s fun to speculate about potential trades.

For the Mets, their current trade assets are Mark Vientos and Ronny Mauricio. At least on the hitting/youth side.

It seems like New York will role with Brett Baty as an almost everyday player, which leaves the door open for Vientos and Mauricio to be trade options.

Mark Vientos holds a lot more value, but if Ronny Mauricio gets a chance in MLB this season, he could also prove his worth as trade bait.
