Before Friday’s game, the Red Sox announced a series of roster moves.

One of those moves included calling up Tyler Uberstine.

Chris Cotillo of MassLive wrote: “Red Sox calling up Zack Kelly and Tyler Uberstine today.”

Uberstine was picked in the 19th round of the 2021 MLB Draft.

He has yet to make his MLB debut.

Here’s what people were saying about the news:

Geoff Pontes: “Congratulations to Tyler Uberstine on his first callup to MLB. One of the best parts of covering baseball is covering the guys that chase their dream no matter how improbable. Uberstine barely pitched in high school, was cut by USC’s club team but never quit. (1/2)”

Northwestern Baseball: “Welcome to The Show 🤝 Tyler Uberstine has been called up to the majors by the @RedSox!”

Baseball Unstitched: “Tyler Uberstine gets the call from the Red Sox front office and he is headed to Fenway to make his big league debut! He boasts a 6 pitch mix, gets soft contact and throws a lot of strikes from a unique arm angle The embodiment of never giving up!”

Joe Weil: “Very cool to see Tyler Uberstine on the Sox roster for the home opener. Enjoyed talking to him this winter about his wild journey from being a regular student at USC to the Sox 40-man roster (and now the Majors).”

Tim Healey: “Tyler Uberstine is a major leaguer. That is suuuch an improbable outcome given his baseball path. From spring training, lots more on his story:”

@PortlandSeaDogs: “Tyler Uberstine was Portland’s Opening Day starter last season and now he’s a big leaguer 🥹 they grow up so fast”

While Uberstine is a very positive story, the Red Sox are off to a slow start to the 2026 season.

They come into the day as the last-place team in the American League East with a 1-5 record in six games.

Following their series with the Padres, the Red Sox will remain at home to host the Milwaukee Brewers on April 6.
