Martin said the level of competition in NASCAR continues to increase. Teams are always working to increase speed and improve performance. He explained that even small changes can affect the results on track.
“Competition ebbs and flows, whether it’s a change in the, a little bit, a little bitty change in body shape on the front or the back or something like that,” Martin said. “Or, or if it’s just competition, it’s always increasing.”
He pointed out that every race team is searching for gains at the same time. “Every race team is always working to get better.” This constant effort means no team can stay ahead for long without continuing to improve.

Martin also described how teams sometimes struggle to see results even when they work hard. He said progress is not always steady in NASCAR.
“And sometimes they get better faster, and sometimes they get stuck, and they work hard as they can, but they don’t get anywhere for a while, and they fall behind.”
He made it clear that effort is not the issue in those moments. “Not because they’re not working, just because that’s how sometimes what you work on doesn’t bear fruit,” Martin explained.
These slow periods can happen to any team in the garage. While one group may quickly find speed, another may spend weeks trying to solve the same problem.
Breakthroughs Can Change Everything
Even when progress stalls, Martin said teams can still see results later. He explained that the same work that once showed no gain can eventually lead to success.
“And then other times it does, you know, bear really sweet fruit.”
Those breakthroughs can shift a team’s season. A setup can start working, or a change can bring better performance. In NASCAR, small gains can make a big difference once they come together.
