NBA Announces Major Jaylen Brown News Ahead of Celtics Game

Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week, the NBA announced Monday.

Brown received the honor for week 24, in which he averaged 31.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game. This was his third honor this season and the first since week 10.

The two-way star continues to prove to be a vital piece for the Celtics, who are considered among the favorites to go through the Eastern Conference. Brown has seen his usage drop with the return of co-star Jayson Tatum early last month, however, it hasn’t hindered his overall impact on the team.

Brown, 29, continues to assemble the best season of his 10-year pro career. He has been in the NBA MVP race all season, largely thanks to striking career highs across the board and steering the Celtics to a top spot in the conference while Tatum was sidelined with a torn Achilles.

Jaylen Brown leaves major impact on the week

Brown had an impressive week, showcasing why he is one of the most consistent stars in the league. He had high-scoring games but still maintained efficiency that has been evident throughout the season. Brown is averaging a career-high 28.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game this season.

He dropped a game-high 43 points in a 147-129 road win over the Miami Heat and followed that with a 26-point showpiece in a blowout victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, also on the road. He then capped the week with another 26 points in a home win over the Toronto Raptors in a Sunday matinee at TD Garden.

These wins helped Boston maintain a strong hold of their position in the run-in and the Player of the Week Award was just another nod to Brown’s impressive season. His elevated play has caught the eyes of everyone, especially being seen as an underrated superstar throughout his career.

Boston looks at its MVP candidate to continue leading the march

The Celtics hold a comfortable No. 2 position in the East and are poised for a deep postseason run. The return of Tatum came at the best possible time as Boston will now have its superstar duo in full form for the playoffs. This was a huge doubt earlier in the season with Tatum’s ACL injury.

Brown has done most of the heavy lifting in Tatum’s absence, affording the All-Star guard a strong MVP case this season.

Boston lost Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis to trades in the offseason, meaning the team was light in star power heading into the 2025-26 campaign. However, Brown has led the franchise to a top-two seed, trailing the No. 1 seed Detroit Pistons, who confirmed their top spot last week, despite the extended absence of All-Star guard Cade Cunningham.

The Celtics host the Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday, their next game after the Player of the Week announcement. A strong end to the season will be an added motivation heading into the playoff stretch.

There’s no denying Boston’s season truly starts in less than a couple of weeks. The playoffs is where this team makes its bread. After a disappointing second round loss at the hands of the rival New York Knicks last spring, Brown and company are expected to go and avenge their defeat.

With just a few games left on the 82-game slate, it is all about locking in good habits and staying healthy before Game 1 of the postseason.
