On Saturday night, the New York Yankees beat the Miami Marlins by a score of 9-7.
They are now an incredible 7-1 in their first eight games of the 2026 season.
On Sunday afternoon, the Yankees will look to sweep Miami.
Yankees Once Made A Massive MLB Draft Mistake

While the Yankees continue to be one of the elite teams in baseball, it’s worth noting that they once made a massive MLB Draft mistake.
During the 2011 draft, they selected Dante Bichette, Jr. with the 51st pick.
Directly following their selection, the Tampa Bay Rays took Blake Snell with the 52nd pick.

Bichette, Jr. was never able to reach the MLB.
Meanwhile, Snell has been one of the best pitchers of this era.
Snell’s MLB Career

Snell was a rookie during the 2016 season with Tampa Bay, and spent the first five years of his career playing for the franchise.
In 2018, Snell went 21-5 with a 1.89 ERA in 31 games.
That year, he made the All-Star Game (and won the Cy Young Award).

Snell then played three years for the San Diego Padres, winning another Cy Young Award in 2023.
That season, he went 14-9 with a 2.25 ERA in 32 games.
ESPN Insights Wrote (on November 15, 2023): “Blake Snell is a 2-time Cy Young Award winner (also in 2018 with the Rays). He’s the 7th pitcher to win the Cy Young in both leagues. Randy Johnson is the only other lefty to win in both leagues.”

More recently, Snell spent one season with the San Francisco Giants before joining the Los Angeles Dodgers (his current team).
In 2025, he helped lead the Dodgers to the World Series Championship over the Toronto Blue Jays.
Current Yankees

Thankfully for the current Yankees, they have one of the best pitching staffs in all of baseball.
If they can stay healthy, they will have a real chance to win the World Series for the first time since 2009.
