Pistons Announcer Recently Delivered Concerning Injury News

The Detroit Pistons haven’t had Isaiah Stewart on the court in quite some time.

The Pistons’ March 13 matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies was the last time the veteran center suited up. He produced 10 points and four rebounds in 20 minutes before checking out of the 126-110 victory.

Since then, Stewart has been diagnosed with a calf strain.

The Pistons’ April 2 matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves was Stewart’s 11th absence in a row.

When the Pistons pay a visit to the Philadelphia 76ers in Pennsylvania on Saturday, April 4, the veteran center will miss game No. 12 for this stretch.

The Pistons haven’t placed an official timeline on Stewart’s return.

While he recently took a step in the right direction, getting back to doing some on-court workouts, Stewart’s timeline is unclear. A recent comment from Detroit’s longtime broadcast announcer, George Blaha, suggests we’ve seen the last of Stewart until the playoffs.

“We don’t expect to see him until the postseason,” Blaha said during the Minnesota game recently. “They want to make sure he’s 100% … He’s that important to this team.”

Backup centers–especially defensive-focused ones–are highly valuable in the NBA. Fortunately for the Pistons, Stewart is one of the best reserve centers in the game, as he’s a top defender and a real difference-maker when on the court.

The Pistons missed Stewart a lot during their first-round playoff series against the New York Knicks in 2025. After he went down with an injury in Game 1, Stewart missed the final five games.

He’s dealing with a setback at a bad time this year, but the Pistons are better off giving Stewart the time he needs to get as close to 100% as possible. At this point, the Pistons just need to lock in the top seed. If they beat the Sixers, the mission is accomplished.

In that case, Stewart could wait until the postseason to avoid further setbacks. However, the Pistons haven’t made the final call just yet. Until there is an official announcement, Stewart’s season has not concluded yet.
