PETER WRIGHT believes that Luke Littler could become the greatest player of all-time – if he doesn’t get BORED.

The double world champion faces Littler on Thursday night in Leeds as the teen sensation chases a record-breaking fifth Premier League win at the First Direct Arena.

Two-time world champion Peter Wright has tipped Littler for greatnessAlamy

But Wright, 54, reckons that the 17-year-old has the ability to hunt down Phil Taylor’s status as the greatest the sport has ever seen.

He said: “Only if he wants to do it, if he doesn’t get too bored. He could do. We don’t know what his plan is.

“He could just play for another five years and think that’s it I’ve earnt enough and go and do something else and still be young enough to go and do that.”

Wright also admits he offered advice to Littler if he struggled in the Premier League – but he hasn’t stopped winning!

The double world champ revealed that he took the Warrington wonderkid to one side during the early weeks of the tournament.

He revealed: “On the first or second week Luke was actually practising. I was throwing on the same board.

“I said to him ‘if you struggle later on you can always come and see me and if you start losing you can come to me for a bit of advice’.

“I said ‘you will start losing’. But he hasn’t yet!”

Wright also said it’s up to the other players to up their game to try and stop the youngster.

He said: “He’s up to World No.25 already and he’s great for the sport.

“All of the other guys and myself we practice in the backroom. He just sits there on his phone. He then does about five minutes practice, does his walk-on and spanks everyone!

“Luke has shook it up. He’s played in three Europeans and won two of them quite easily.

“Maybe we are doing it wrong. We are practising too hard and wearing ourselves out and he’s nice and fresh!

“But he’s very talented. Luke Humphries puts the hard work in and he’s won near enough all the majors. But Luke Littler is a different animal.

“That’s what we needed. Michael van Gerwen came onto the scene just after Phil Taylor and he raised the bar.

“Luke Littler is now doing the same. It’s up to everyone else to get their fingers out and practice harder and hopefully stop him.”
