Rory McIlroy Announces Career News as Masters Appearance Nears

Rory McIlroy is gearing up for the 2026 Masters Tournament, and at this point, he really needs no introduction. Heading into the tournament, taking place from Thursday, April 9, through Sunday, April 12, McIlroy has notched 29 PGA Tour wins, more than $110 million in earnings and made 245 cuts in 277 starts, according to PGA research.

McIlroy is really one of the three golfers most in the spotlight for the 2026 Masters Tournament, along with Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm. He’s kind of a big deal, as they say, and ahead of the tournament, McIlroy has made some career news that shows he’s more than just a golfer. He’s a brand and entity all his own.

Speaking ahead of the Masters, McIlroy said that he feels fantastic physically. “I feel like with the way I am playing and feeling… physically I feel better at 36 than I did at 25,” he said, according to the Guardian. “I still have a lot left.”

The player added, “If I can produce the golf shots that I needed to produce down the last few holes at Augusta, feeling the way I was feeling then, I am pretty capable of doing anything in this game.”

McIlroy takes the majors seriously. In the same press appearance, he said, “I don’t want to say the tour stuff is ‘less important,’ but at the same time, if I have 10 years left and I really want to prioritize, the majors then the other tournaments are great to play in, you want to win them,” he told reporters. “It’s just that every time I play in a PGA Tour event I have one eye on what I need to do for the next few weeks, leading into majors.”

Rory McIlroy Shares TaylorMade Partnership and Movie Ahead of 2026 Masters Tournament

Ahead of the Masters, McIlroy is celebrating his new movie, “Rory McIlroy: The Masters Wait,” which premiered on March 30 on Amazon Prime Video. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the running time is one hour and 21 minutes.

“Rory McIlroy’s 14-year pursuit of a Masters victory at Augusta National-the sole major missing from his career Grand Slam,” the film’s official description states of the storyline. “A hole-by-hole chronicle of the 2025 final round, from his 2011 meltdown through years of disappointment.”

McIlroy also took to social media right before the Masters to announce news about his partnership with TaylorMade. In the Monday, April 6 post, he shared, “TaylorMade is giving away a signed bag like the one I am using at Augusta this week. Comes with Qi4Ddriver and woods, headcovers, and six dozen TP5 pix season opener golf balls. Link to enter is in TaylorMade’s bio.”

Rory McIlroy Chances of Taking It All at the 2026 Masters

So, will McIlroy and TaylorMade win the Masters? That’s on the minds of anyone with their eyes on the Masters.

According to CBS News, their odds model has “examined McIlroy’s (+1300) chances of becoming the fourth golfer to win back-to-back green jackets. The Irishman has completed just three PGA events this year, with a runner-up, a 14th place and a 46th place.” But, no matter what the odds say, the truth will be in the pudding when the Masters kicks off.
