Ruben Amorim has vowed to remain in charge of Sporting next season after guiding the Portuguese side to their 20th league title.

Sporting beat Portimonense 3-0 on Saturday, with their league success confirmed the following day after second-place Benfica fell to a 2-0 defeat against Famalicao.

It marks the club’s second league title under the stewardship of Amorim, who has been heavily linked with a move to several Premier League clubs in recent months.

The 39-year-old at one point seemed the preferred candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool and also flew to London last month to hold talks with West Ham.

Amorim later apologised for meeting with West Ham and has now reaffirmed his commitment to Sporting, insisting he would now target a third league title with the club.

‘[I have] huge happiness, we have to go and celebrate,’ Amorim said, according to Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha.

‘Stay? There are still more things left [to achieve]. I have a contract and I’m Sporting’s coach.

‘Let’s celebrate today. [I’m] excited, yes, because it wasn’t the same [as the 2020/21 league triumph]. We had the Covid phase and it wasn’t the same.

‘I saw the Benfica game today. I had a good time, with my players, we were having dinner and everything went well.

‘I stay, I have a contract with Sporting. It’s special, the first one was strange, without crowds and without European competitions. This time we did it, now we can try the third.’
