England have been handed a huge injury boost ahead of their World Cup quarter-final showdown with Norway tonight with Declan Rice, Marc Guehi and Reece James all returning to training.

Rice has been carrying a neural hamstring issue since the turn of the year, playing through the pain barrier with Thomas Tuchel revealing after the win over DR Congo the Arsenal midfielder has asked to come off because he was in ‘terrible pain.’

He was back in the team that beat Mexico at the Azteca on Monday but missed training this week due to illness, kept away from his teammates to avoid the bug spreading around the camp.

Guehi meanwhile was absent from training at England’s base in Kansas City due to a hamstring issue.

Both players however were back among their teammates as England trained in Miami on Friday.

They were joined by James, Tuchel’s first-choice right-back who has not played since suffering a hamstring injury of his own in the group stage game against Ghana.

The Chelsea captain is once again available for selection after missing the last three games.

‘We had everyone available in training. That’s the best news,’ Tuchel said in his pre-match press conference.

Tuchel has a full squad to choose from with the exception of Jarell Quansah, who was sent off in the 3-2 win over Mexico.

This week, FIFA confirmed the Bayer Leverkusen star will serve a two-match suspension. Quansah was shown a straight red card after a VAR review early in the second half for a high challenge on Jesus Gallardo, offences that usually carry a one-game ban.

However it was upgraded with FIFA considering the challenge ‘serious foul play.’

England overcame Mexico’s ferocious home advantage to reach the last eight where Norway and Erling Haaland await tonight.

‘I think we took a big step in our last match, but it was only a step,’ Tuchel said.

‘We’re still hungry, we still have dreams and we still have a big goal to play for. The next step is to win the quarter-final.

‘We left this match behind. We take the positive things and the belief with us, but everything that matters is ahead of us.’
