Toronto Blue Jays Linked to Potential Trade for 35-HR All-Star

The Toronto Blue Jays are currently second in the American League East with a 4-2 record. While they ended up losing two out of their three games against the Colorado Rockies in their last series, they are still in a solid spot at this point in the season.

After losing Game 7 of the World Series in extra innings to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Blue Jays have high expectations for this season. It is understandable, as they have a strong roster and the potential to once again be among the best teams in the league in 2026.

While this is the case, there is no question that they should be looking to boost their roster between now and this year’s trade deadline. One of their biggest needs is another impactful outfielder, and they are being linked to one of the league’s best trade candidates because of it.

Toronto Blue Jays Named Trade Fit for Minnesota Twins Star Outfielder Byron Buxton

In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Zachary D. Rymer looked at the 10 best MLB trade candidates for this season. Among the players discussed was Minnesota Twins star outfielder Byron Buxton. This makes sense, as the Twins are rebuilding, and Buxton has been a popular name in the rumor mill for quite some time.

“Byron Buxton proclaimed himself a “Twin for life” a couple of weeks before last year’s trade deadline, but he couldn’t have known then that the franchise was headed for a downward spiral,” Rymer wrote. “And since Buxton was reportedly willing (per ESPN’s Jeff Passan) to waive his no-trade clause over the winter, he should be considered a top trade name for the summer market,” Rymer wrote.

From there, Rymer then named the Blue Jays as a potential landing spot for Buxton this season.

With the Blue Jays being in need of another star in their outfield, Buxton would undoubtedly be a major addition to their roster if acquired. The 32-year-old makes a serious impact when he is playing at his best and healthy, so he could fit in wonderfully on a Blue Jays team with high expectations this season.

Buxton’s 2025 season shows just what he is capable of when performing at his highest level. In 126 games this past season, he set new career highs with 35 home runs, 83 RBIs, and 129 hits. He also had a .264 batting average and 24 stolen bases on the year. With this, the two-time All-Star would give the Blue Jays another star who is a threat in multiple ways if acquired.

Blue Jays Should Not Be the Only Team in on Buxton This Season

If the Twins end up shopping Buxton this season, the Blue Jays should not be the only team interested in him. He is exactly the kind of player that contenders love and could end up being the best outfielder available near the trade deadline.

Yet, when looking at the Blue Jays’ current group, it is clear that they could use a player like Buxton immensely. It will be interesting to see if they can swing a deal for him from here.
