WWE Champion Cody Rhodes had his boss Triple H appear on his podcast to discuss their respective careers and time working together. Both men have strong support for each other today, but Rhodes went out of his way to insult Triple H years ago before his WWE return. Cody smashed a throne designed to look like Triple H’s on AEW’s first-ever PPV Double or Nothing back in 2019. Triple H has never publicly talked about this subject until Rhodes finally asked him about it.
The following quote from Triple H on What Do You Wanna Talk About? showed he understood why Cody did it:
“No, look, that kind of sh*t to me is like, I remember when people brought it to me and were showing it to me and I was like, ‘F**k yeah, all right, good for him.’ You know what I mean? That’s the kind of sh*t you do; you’re trying to make a name for yourself, you’re trying to get out there, you’re trying to do some cool sh*t, trying to do some different stuff.”
Triple H flat out said taking risks by insulting competition is worth doing when trying to make a name. Rhodes and AEW had to make headlines from their first show to get fans to give the new product a chance. Triple H claims he understood that and respected Cody instead of taking offense to it.
Triple H Reached Out To Cody Outside Of WWE
Rhodes and Triple H had a productive conversation that surprisingly featured talk about Cody’s career outside of WWE. Triple H commended Rhodes for requesting his release and making noise outside of the top promotion.
Cody even revealed that Triple H texted him a nice message for winning the ROH World Championship:
“There was no malice for sure because this is after I won the Ring of Honor title. One of the first texts I got back to was yours: ‘Congrats.’ As I was walking to the hospital in Lowell because my lip was busted open holding my first world title.”
Triple H going out of his way to show love to Rhodes after winning his first major world title kept a connection going between the two. Cody revealed his AEW insult wasn’t meant to be personal due to the text setting things right between them.
Cody Supports Triple H Running WWE
Current criticism of WWE having a lackluster build for WrestleMania 42 has led to some calling for Triple H to be replaced as the head of creative. Most of the blame goes to Triple H for his leadership role, but Rhodes clearly supports him as the boss moving forward. Triple H having the support of top stars like Cody and CM Punk helps his cause.
Roman Reigns is the biggest name to recently criticize WWE’s creative, and that put some of the spotlight on Triple H. WrestleMania needs to deliver for Triple H’s reputation, but this interview did help his standing with fans. Rhodes and other talents still believe in Triple H as the man for the job.
