Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors have gone for far too long apart.Â
Curry, 38, last played Jan. 30. The two-time MVP has missed 27 consecutive games battling runnerâs knee, which he first began experiencing symptoms of Jan. 24 during a workout.Â
It began a lengthy shutdown for Curry, putting a major dent in his 17th NBA season. When he went down, the Warriors were now without two of their best players for the foreseeable future; the other, Jimmy Butler, was lost for the season and perhaps much beyond that after tearing his ACL less than two weeks before Curry exited the lineup.
Long-story-short: the 2025-26 season has not been kind to these Warriors.Â
The team entered the campaign chock full of hope. It was supposed to be the year of Curry and Butler, their first full season as teammates, guiding Golden State back to doing what it has often done best in the past: make deep playoff runs.
The franchise has dealt with a litany of injuries aside from its two stars. Key rotational pieces like Al Horford, Seth Curry and Quinten Post have also missed significant time.Â
These major bumps and bruises have spotted the Warriors a play-in designation yet again. Golden State is firmly planted as the 10th seed and has little hope of moving up. It trails the ninth seed by an entire three games.Â
But of course, the excitement brewing over Curryâs return has birthed some new vibes in the Bay. The 38-year-old Warriors star is expected to return tonight against the Houston Rockets.
Warriors head coach drops big statement on Stephen Curry
The Dubs are several games short of a .500 record and really donât have much to play for beyond preparing for the play-in tournament. Golden State also needs to get and stay fully healthy before the qualifying games.
The good news is that major help is on the way.Â
After weeks of battling frustrating setbacks with his knee, Curry is slated to make his desperately-awaited return. The Steph-starved Warriors faithful has sat around far too long waiting for this moment.Â

Curry was finally able to string together a productive week in his last push toward a complete recovery. The 12-time All-Star participated in two five-on-five scrimmages this week and looked great in both, according to head coach Steve Kerr.Â
On Thursday, Curry needed to demonstrate he could go through that second and final scrimmage to prove to the teamâs medical staff he was good to go. He did just that.Â
The feeling of a Curry comeback is in the air. Only when a team loses its superstar for so long does it truly realize how difficult life is without him
Coach Kerr certainly experienced that revelation over the past couple of months and couldnât be more ecstatic to have his No. 1 guy back in uniform.Â
âThe game tends to get a lot easier for everybody when Steph is out there. Weâll still be playing our style of basketball but it will be nice to have him back assuming heâs back,â Kerr said after Saturday’s practice. â⦠Great energy, hope, he just brings hope to everybody, so the sun is shining a little brighter, food tastes a little better. Steph is Steph, he brings joy to everybody, players, coaches, fans. Heâs a special human being.â
Kerr didnât feel that was enough praise, so he went the extra mile.
“He’s the greatest face of a franchise that I’ve ever seen,” Kerr expressed. “We owe it to our fans to give them the opportunity to watch Steph Curry play basketball this year.â
The organization hoping for the best in the little remaining time
To be direct, the Warriors donât have much time left this season. Even they know that.
No one, not even Golden State, is expecting this team to reach the Finals or even make a deep playoff run. What would be considered exiting the season on a high note is just making a little noise. That could mean winning one first round playoff game, two play-in games or even just one. Go out fighting.Â
Curry is coming off a long shutdown and is going to be asked to play high-intensity, playoff-level basketball in a matter of days. That is demanding a lot from anyone, let alone a 38-year-old with a million miles on his legs.
Tonightâs home game against Houston could be a confidence booster and momentum builder. The Rockets are playoff bound and possess a much higher ceiling this year. The Warriors could go out and use the intensity and spirit generated by Curryâs return to capture a vintage win.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. from San Francisco.Â
