Warriors’ Steve Kerr Teases Stephen Curry’s Potential Return Date

The Golden State Warriors may be closing in on a major late-season boost as head coach Steve Kerr offered an encouraging update on Stephen Curry following his latest step in recovery.

Speaking on 95.7 The Game on Tuesday, Kerr said Curry participated in five-on-five scrimmage action and came away looking sharp — a key milestone in his return from a lingering knee injury.

“Yeah, today was a good day, you know, watching Steph scrimmage after our practice,” Kerr said. “We had a very light practice, but yeah, he got out on the floor and played 5-on-5 and looked good.”

Steve Kerr Doesn’t Rule Out Sunday’s Return vs Rockets

While the Warriors are still taking a cautious approach, Kerr did not dismiss the possibility of Curry returning as soon as Sunday against the Houston Rockets.

“I wouldn’t rule it out,” Kerr said. “It’s one good day… but the next few days are really, really important.”

The update marks one of the most optimistic signals yet regarding Curry’s availability after an extended absence.

Next Few Days ‘Really Important’ for Stephen Curry and Warriors

Despite the positive development, Kerr emphasized that the evaluation process is ongoing.

“We’ll take it day by day. We got to see how he’s feeling tomorrow,” Kerr said.

Curry’s return timeline will largely depend on how his knee responds to increased activity, particularly after returning to full-contact play.

Warriors Facing Tight Turnaround Before Key Test

Golden State has little time to evaluate Curry before a pivotal stretch.

The Warriors will play a back-to-back set against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday and the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday before Sunday’s matchup with the Rockets.

The timing adds intrigue, as Houston is the same team the Warriors eliminated in the first round of last season’s playoffs — a potential return stage for Curry if he is cleared in time.

Warriors Fighting to Stay Alive in Playoff Race

Golden State enters the final stretch of the regular season at 36–39, currently holding the No. 10 seed in the Western Conference — the final play-in spot.

The Warriors have lost 16 of their last 25 games without Curry, underscoring his importance as they push to secure postseason positioning.

If the standings hold, Golden State would need to win two elimination games in the play-in tournament to reach the playoffs.

Stephen Curry Return Could Shift Late-Season Outlook

Tuesday’s scrimmage marked Curry’s first full five-on-five action in weeks — a major step toward game readiness after being sidelined since late January with knee pain and swelling.

The Warriors are hopeful he can return in time to build rhythm ahead of the play-in tournament.

Even a limited version of Curry could significantly alter the team’s outlook.

Cautious Optimism Moving Forward

While the signs are encouraging, the Warriors are not yet ready to commit to a firm return date.

For now, Curry’s progress offers hope, but the next few days will ultimately determine whether that optimism turns into availability.

With the season on the line, the timing of his return could define how far the Warriors go.
