The spectator was attended to as cleaners mopped up the mess, which was greeted with cheers from the audience.

BBC pundits John Parrott and Steve Davis chuckled in response to the audience’s reaction, as presenter Hazel Irvine clarified the reason for the delay.

Parrott reacted saying: “That’s the biggest cheer for a cleaner you will ever see.”

The 23rd frame was interrupted after a fan was taken ill, with referee Paul Collier asking Jones to pause.

A lady was escorted out of the arena by security shortly afterwards, with the clear up taking place at the end of the frame.

Both players left the arena and there was a six-minute delay until the next frame could begin.

Jones won the interrupted frame to close the gap to three frames, but Wilson used the delay to recoup and won the 24th frame to lead 14-10.

Wilson had led 7-0 at the start of the match, leading BBC presenter Rob Walker to describe Jones as being “under pressure” as he introduced him to the arena at the start of play today.

The Welshman did not appreciate the description as he scrunched up his face in response while shaking his head.
