One of the Cubs’ most durable players might have gotten injured.
Shortstop Dansby Swanson left Sunday’s game against the Cardinals in the bottom of the third inning after swinging through a 0-0 Hunter Dobbins pitch. Swanson immediately grimaced in pain and was replaced by pinch-hitter James Triantos.
Swanson has played in 119 of the Cubs’ 125 games.
The Cubs trailed St. Louis 3-0 when Swanson departed.
In the top of the fourth, Nico Hoerner shifted to shortstop and Triantos stayed in at second base.
The team said Swanson had left side discomfort.
