BBC star Maryam Moshiri is truly the gift that keeps on giving, as she once again amused viewers with an interesting on-air choice.

The news presenter decided to have a go at impersonating a seagull after reporting on the European gull screeching championship.

The unusual competition saw people from around the world trying to perfectly recreate the sound. The UK impressed judges with nine-year-old Cooper from Derbyshire managing to take the win in the junior category.

Maryam, 46, praised the ‘uncanny’ impression, and told viewers that although she’d love to have a go too, it could be ‘career-ending’… however, she couldn’t fight the urge for long, and we’re so grateful for that.

‘I can feel that you really want me to do an impression of a seagull so I’m going to give it a go,’ she said.

She then began to impersonate the animal with a loud ‘ha-ha-ha’, which we immediately want to set as our morning alarm.

‘Is that okay?’ she asked. It’s more than okay, Maryam.

‘I’m hearing in my ear that I’ve been sacked. Oh well,’ she joked.

‘C’est la vie, as they say.’

Maryam then transitioned back into reading the news about Donald Trump’s court case as if she wasn’t just filling the studio with squawking sounds.

The moment was praised after TV critic Scott Bryan shared the clip. Daniel Jae Webb said: ‘Honestly love this woman.’ While others described her as a ‘national treasure’ and remarked that the moment alone was worth the TV license fee.

As well as being an excellent news reader, Maryam is also known for creating these moments of chaos on the BBC programme – sometimes accidentally.

In December, Maryam began the midday news by giving the middle finger.

Maryam later apologised for the gaffe, explaining she had jokingly counted down, culminating in pulling her middle finger for the number one, and she never intended for the moment to air.

Months earlier, Maryam was reporting on a supermoon but the broadcaster wasn’t able to show pictures.

That wasn’t a problem for Maryam, who simply placed her hands into a circular shape to emulate what it could look like.

‘It looked a little bit like this, there you go – supermoon,’ she said while keeping a straight face.

Never change Maryam!
