Former Bear Otis Wilson subdued by security after scuffle with worker at Soldier Field, witnesses say
Former Bear Otis Wilson, a starting linebacker on the 1985 Super Bowl champions, scuffled with security in a hallway at Soldier Field after the Bears’ 23-12 win against the Jets.
According to multiple witnesses working in different roles on the suite level near the press box, Wilson, 69, scuffled with a female security worker outside a bank of elevators before being subdued by multiple people.
A commotion could be heard from within the press box shortly after the game ended. The Sun-Times saw Wilson, on all fours, apparently shortly after the altercation was over. He later bent over at the waist while standing, appearing tired, after things had calmed. He was surrounded by several men and women wearing different uniforms, some with hand-held radios. Eventually, he was wheeled onto an elevator in a chair and taken downstairs, conscious and alert and with no visible injuries.
A softball-size hole was left in the wall about a foot off the floor and directly across from the elevator Wilson had boarded. Multiple witnesses told the Sun-Times the hole was created during the initial scuffle.
The witnesses said Wilson was told he could not board an elevator reserved for media trying to get to the locker rooms and press conference rooms immediately after the game, but that he would not listen and got on anyway. Eventually, he was led off and the doors closed before the scuffle escalated.
Nearly three hours after the game, the Chicago Police Department said it had no calls of service or finalized case reports about the incident.
The Bears had not immediately responded to a request for comment.
