Neeson and Weinstein’s tense encounter came at a screening of the 1993 romantic period drama Ethan Frome.

In his new memoir, Chasing Hollywood, movie marketing veteran Gerry Rich recalls sitting between the future Taken star and the Miramax boss, who is currently serving a 15-year prison sentence after being convicted of sexual assault. Neeson was reportedly upset that Weinstein had stepped in and recut the movie – which was based on the classic novella by Edith Wharton – without bothering to inform either Neeson, his co-star Patricia Arquette, or director John Madden, as <a href=”https://pagesix.com/2026/10/12/hollywood/wild-fight-between-liam-neeson-and-harvey-weinstein-detailed-in-new-book-by-movie-marketing-veteran/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Page Six reports.

Rich writes that Neeson stormed into the screening at the Tribeca Film Center and lashed out at Weinstein.

“You don’t want to do this, Harvey!” Liam shouted.

Weinstein replied that he could “do what I want” because “I’m a millionaire.”

That comment left Neeson “perplexed.”

“I’m a millionaire too. What does that matter? You don’t want to fight me,” the actor replied, per Rich.

The blow-up between Neeson and Weinstein even made it into the gossip columns. Weinstein gave a statement to Page Six at the time. “Tempers did flare,” the producer admitted. But he denied that things were close to getting physical. “If you think I’m stupid enough to shove Liam, I’m not,” he said.

Despite the tension between the two men, Neeson did end up working on at least one other Weinstein-produced film: 2002’s Gangs of New York, where he played “Priest” Vallon. Madden went on to direct the 1999 Oscar-winner Shakespeare in Love, which was released by Weinstein’s Miramax.

‘Ethan Frome’ director said Harvey Weinstein was ‘not an easy man to deal with’

In 2017, Madden spoke about his relationship with Weinstein in an interview with <a href=”https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/shakespeare-love-director-harvey-weinstein-an-abuse-power-1049015/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>The Hollywood Reporter.

“I have had a long association with that studio [Miramax] and with Harvey in particular and famously, he is not an easy man to deal with,” he said. Madden added that he had “many, many, many creative battles” with Weinstein but that he had no idea about the numerous sexual harassment, sexual assault, and rape allegations against him.

“I think the lesson we take from this is, we should all be more vigilant and more aware because the whole thing is about an abuse of power, and Harvey was a very, very, very powerful man,” he said.
