Woman in her 50s ‘murdered’ at luxury five star hotel as man arrested

A MURDER investigation has been launched after a woman in her 50s died at a luxury five-star resort.

Officers were called to Pennyhill Park Hotel in Bagshot, Surrey, at 8.43am on Sunday April 14.

The hotel describes itself as “Surrey’s most luxurious spa and hotel retreat” and has 124 rooms and sits on 120 acres of parkland.

It also hosts the RFU’s Centre of Athletic Development and as an indoor training venue for the national squad.

Police were alerted by the ambulance service following the discovery of the woman’s body.

They have now informed her family who are being supported by specialist officers.

A police spokesperson said: “A 60-year-old man from Devon has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody at this time.

“It is believed that the victim and suspect were known to each other.

“An investigation, led by Surrey Police and Sussex Police’s Major Crime Team, is underway to establish the circumstances of the woman’s death. These enquiries remain ongoing.”

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Debbie Birch said:

“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this difficult time.

“The investigation is in the early stages and a specialist team of officers are working around the clock to follow up enquiries.”

Booking a room costs upwards of £300 per night with the most expensive going for £1,200.

Memberships for a seven-day joining fee at the club cost £750 to join and then £3,735 annually.

Manchester United did their pre-season training at the hotel in 2021 after they were unable to leave the country during Covid.
