City Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson formed a new ad hoc committee on Wednesday dedicated to supporting the film and entertainment industry in Los Angeles.
The council president introduced a motion Wednesday to establish the Ad Hoc Committee on Film, Entertainment and Creative Industry, and named Councilman Adrin Nazarian to head the three-member panel.
The committee will “review and coordinate all matters related to film, television, and creative content production,” according to the motion.
“I want to thank the council president for recognizing the urgency of the moment,” Nazarian said in a statement. “We need to move quickly and decisively to revitalize production here in Los Angeles.”
Since taking office in 2025, Nazarian has introduced 15 motions to bolster filmmaking in the city. Seven of those motions have already received approval by the full council, but eight others remain in the committee process.
Voters elected Nazarian to represent the 2nd Council District in 2024, which encompasses the communities of eastern San Fernando Valley such as North Hollywood, Sun Valley, Studio City, Valley Village, Sherman Oaks and others.
The motions were referred to different council committees such as rules, public works, budget and transportation, where consideration can be delayed for months.
All film-related motions are expected to be referred to the ad hoc committee moving forward.
“Council has worked to mitigate challenges faced by the industry, and as it explores additional actions and legislation, it would be beneficial to have these considered by a committee dedicated to film, television and creative industry issues,” Harris-Dawson said in a statement.
It was the latest step by city officials to support the film and entertainment industry amid fears that the region is losing production shoots to other states and jurisdictions that offer more favorable economic incentives.
