An ‘offbeat’ Irish dark comedy about an obituarist turned serial killer is now available to stream for free.

It’s got a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and there’s two seasons for viewers to really get their teeth into.

Both are now available to watch on ITVX, having been recently added to the platform for your bingeing needs.

Obituary is set in the small town of Kilraven and follows newspaper obituarist Elvira Clancy, played by Siobhan Cullen (Babies, Bodkin, The Dry).

A young woman obsessed with death, when she is faced with the prospect of having to go freelance and losing her full-time wage, Elvira takes matters into her own hands and starts getting a head start on her work and playing a part in people’s demises.

Pressure ramps up due to the fact she also needs to support her alcoholic dad Ward, played by Michael Smiley.

At the same time, new crime reporter Emerson Stafford (Ronan Raftery) is investigating a cold-case murder in the town.

The first season had viewers hooked. Not mincing his words, X user Richard explained: ‘If you like a laugh and murder then this Irish show could be for you.’

‘Full of black humour just as Bodkin was, and set in Ireland, we love it!’ Alyson shared.

After the second season was released, Anthony Shannon said the show was ‘sublime’. He wrote: ‘How far will death obsessed obituarist Elvira Clancy go to feel alive on a superb darkly delicious twisted tale.’

Speaking to RTÉ Entertainment in 2023, Siobhan said that when she first read the script there was ‘nothing I could compare it to’.

‘It just felt very unique. That’s what I found appealing – it’s a bit dark and twisted but also a lot of humour and light as well,’ she said.

Speaking about her character, she said it was somewhat strange she was considered the outcast.

‘It’s funny because in her town, she’s seen as the oddball, the weirdo but the characters that make up the town are some of the wildest and weirdest you’ll meet.

‘So, she’s quite relatable to the audience because she is quiet human but in this town of freaks and oddballs, she does stand out.’

The second instalment sees Cullen reprise her role as Elvira who continues to seek relief in murdering, but this time there’s competition from somebody else who has the same idea in mind.
