PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Terrianna Kelley, Oaks Christian, Sr.
Terrianna Kelley’s numbers speak for themselves. The BYU commit batted .567 with 55 hits, 38 RBIs, 44 runs scored, nine doubles, five triples and 11 home runs this spring. She drew 12 walks and only struck out twice in 112 plate appearances.
“She’s a gamer,” Oaks Christian softball coach Cheyenne Coyle said.
What makes Kelley more than just the numbers she produces on the field are the intangibles: leadership and sacrifice. It’s why she’s the 2026 Daily News Softball Player of the Year.
“She was going to play center field, but we had an injury that forced us to move things around. Terrianna played third base this year. She was willing to learn a whole new position,” Coyle said. “She’s so special. She’s been special since she was a freshman.”
Equipped with great athleticism and a cannon for an arm, Kelley played third base to help lead the Lions to a 26-4 record, including a Marmonte League title and CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoff berth.
Coyle says Kelley is a great leader with a quiet confidence.
“Her teammates love her,” Coyle said.
Kelley also has a clutch gene, another mark of a great player.
“Each time there’s runners in scoring position, she seems to deliver,” said Coyle. “She’s developed into the hitter everyone can depend on.”
“I can’t think of a time she didn’t come through,” Coyle added, laughing.
Kelley is now a two-time All-Area selection and two-time Marmonte League MVP.
PITCHER OF THE YEAR
Sydney Scripter, Paraclete, Sr.
What can’t Scripter do?
The standout senior was great from the pitching circle and the plate this spring, going 19-1 with a 2.68 ERA and 125 strikeouts in 130 ⅔ innings. She batted .506 with 39 hits, 36 RBIs, 24 runs scored and 18 home runs.
The 18 home runs is the fourth-most in California. Ponderosa Shingle Springs’ Kate McCartney has the most with 20.
In Scripter’s 24 appearances, she had seven-or-more strikeouts nine times, including a season high 10 punchouts on March 21 against Wasco High.
The domination from the mound helped the Spirits go 24-3 this season, including a 12-0 Del Rey League championship campaign and berth to the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.
FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR
Julia Horton, Oaks Christian
As Terrianna Kelley leaves by way of graduation, Horton will likely take the torch as the next four-year great for the Lions. But, she might even be better because Horton pitches and hits.
“I’m super excited to see what she does the next three years,” Oaks Christian coach Cheyenne Coyle said.
Horton was 14-1 from the circle this spring with a 1.56 ERA and 112 strikeouts in 80 ⅔ innings of work. She helped her own cause, batting .364 with 36 hits, 32 RBIs, 20 runs scored, five doubles, five triples and four home runs in 30 games.
“She’s feisty in the circle. I love her presence in there,” Coyle said.
Horton was the only freshman selected to the All-Marmonte League first team.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Justin Siegel, Notre Dame
It’s hard to argue with results.
Siegel, once again, led his Notre Dame Knights to a fifth straight Mission League title this spring. The Knights were coming off a Mission League crowning when he took over, but the last four have been won with him at the helm.
Notre Dame didn’t just go 23-4 and 7-1 in the Mission League, the Knights reached the CIF Southern Section Division 1 quarterfinals after defeating Anaheim Canyon (6-3) and Oaks Christian (8-5), respectively.
The Knights fell to powerhouse Norco 8-0 in the quarterfinal round on May 20.
It’s the furthest any local team advanced this year at the highest level.
