Beyoncé has once again proven to be the queen of surprises, having dropped a new song out of the blue this weekend, sending fans into hysteria.

The Grammy-winning music icon, 44, has kept the Beyhive eagerly awaiting new music since the release of her 2024 record Cowboy Carter, which was highly praised for its genre-blending and spotlighting of Black pioneers’ contributions to American music.

It marked the second in a planned trilogy of albums, following Renaissance (2022). And now, with a new single out, fans have every reason to hope that more could be on the way…

Named Morning Dew (Donk), the track was released to mark the 4th of July holiday weekend, as well as another special anniversary.

In a press release, Bey confirmed that its release also starts a 60-day countdown to her next birthday and the re-issue of B’DAY, her groundbreaking second album of 2006.

Written by Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, The-Dream, and Darius Dixon, Morning Dew (Donk) is the Crazy in Love hitmaker’s first new song in two years and a sweet nod to the fanbase that’s championed her career over the years.

Beyonc? marks the 4th of July Holiday with a special gift to her fans with the release of "MORNING DEW (DONK)," a new song that also starts a 60-day countdown to her next birthday, and the re-issue of B'DAY, her ground-breaking second album that was released two decades ago on September 4, 2006.

Loyal supporters will know that the global entertainer has an unreleased track called Donk, which surfaced online in 2013 and was originally intended for her self-titled studio album. Again, it was written by Beyoncé, The-Dream, and Pharrell.

So, it’s safe to say that finally releasing it in a new way feels very much ‘for the fans’.

Morning Dew (Donk) will be included on the 20th anniversary edition of B’DAY and has been accompanied by a lyric video featuring repurposed throwback footage, directed by frequent collaborator Cliff Watts.

The single artwork is equally stunning, showing Beyoncé in a sultry black-and-white snap, wearing a bikini and lying on the sand.

Reacting to the surprise drop, fans took to social media in a frenzy, declaring: ‘Beyoncé is back!’

‘DONK IS OUT OMG OMG OMG OMG IM CRYING REAL TEARS THANK YOU BEYONCE!!!!!!’, a very excited @liamxsos wrote on X.

‘Beyoncé woke up and decided to drop Morning Dew (Donk) out of nowhere after 13 years?????? She’s crazy’, said @horansbbygal.

@downbadh0e said: ‘BEYONCE IS BACK LIFE IS WORTH LIVING’.

Featuring major hits like Déjà Vu, Irreplaceable, and Ring the Alarm, the B’DAY album was Beyoncé’s second number one, selling over 540,000 copies in its first week.

It remains one of the most iconic bodies of work in Beyoncé’s discography and shaped the sound we know and love her for today. International versions also included collaborations, such as Shakira duet Beautiful Liar.

On the record’s 10th anniversary, The Boombox wrote in an article that it was a ‘monumental moment for music fans worldwide and would elevate Beyoncé from princess-in-waiting to a full-fledged queen in the musical landscape’.

In another article published by Revolt, B’DAY was hailed as Beyoncé’s ‘first real visual album’, which, of course, paved the way for two more: Beyoncé (2013) and Lemonade (2016).

Following Lemonade, Beyoncé was quiet on the music scene for several years before dropping Renaissance mid-pandemic and creating kitchen discos for fans globally with Break My Soul and Cuff It.

Then, of course, came the highly decorated Cowboy Carter, which had collabs with Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Shaboozey, and more.
