England play Argentina in the semi-finals of the World Cup this evening with a place in Sunday’s final awaiting the winners.

The blockbuster showdown is arguably one of the biggest in England’s history, with the Three Lions playing their arch-rivals in a competitive match for the first-time in 24 years.

And for the first time this tournament, the BBC will be presenting live coverage of a game from the stadium itself.

Up until this point, the BBC have elected to present matches from their immersive studio in Salford.

The decision to stay in the UK for the majority of the World Cup was made with financial and environmental considerations in mind, with the BBC eager to keep costs for the expanded 48-team tournament to a minimum whilst also committing to reducing its carbon footprint.

ITV, on the other hand, have been based in Brooklyn, New York, for the duration of the competition, with their studio boasting views of the Manhattan skyline and Brooklyn Bridge.

The experienced trio replaced Gary Lineker as cost-hosts of Match of the Day last year, with this summer’s World Cup the first major international men’s tournament since 2002 in which Lineker has not been on presenting duties for the corporation.

Chapman will be joined by former England players Wayne Rooney, Joe Hart and Micah Richards, who will be on hand to offer their expertise as pundits.

While Rooney needs no introduction, Hart won 75 caps for England as a goalkeeper between 2018 and 2007, representing his side at three major tournaments.
