The Legend Of Zelda’s 40th anniversary will be celebrated with a special Switch 2 console and Pro Controller, based on new leaked images.
Following rumours of a Zelda-themed Switch 2 console and controller last month, images have surfaced online appearing to confirm they exist.
We still don’t have an exact release date for the remake of The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time, but it’s set to land at some point in 2026. All signs point to a November launch, which implies it will be Nintendo’s big Christmas game for the Switch 2.
At the same time, The Legend Of Zelda celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. While the anniversary date has technically passed (February 21), it seems Nintendo is set to mark the occasion with a themed Switch 2 console and Pro Controller.
At least, that’s based on leaked images of the packaging which have spread across Reddit and ResetEra. It’s unclear where it’s been pulled from, but it seems legitimate based on the box details and shared similarities between the designs.
Crucially, the designs aren’t specifically tailored to the Ocarina Of Time remake, but instead have a logo dedicated to Zelda’s 40th anniversary – which is exactly what previous rumours suggested would be the case.

Additionally, the Pro Controller matches a leaked description from Universo Nintendo editor ‘Necro’ Felipe Lima, who previously said he had seen the hardware, and that the controller had a Triforce crest centred between the buttons – and +’ with a green tip.
Lima has since shared the leaked images on X and said they were ‘exactly as I saw it previously’. When asked if they are real, he replied: ‘Both are legit’.
If these designs are real, it’s likely they’ll be announced in a future Nintendo Direct. The company has traditionally held a Nintendo Direct in September, but it’s possible it could do a Zelda-themed presentation before then. The company has done dedicated Directs for Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave and Splatoon Raiders recently, so it’s hard to imagine Zelda won’t also get one.
This wouldn’t be the first time Zelda-themed hardware has coincided with a new game. For Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom, Nintendo released a special Switch OLED and controller. A Zelda-themed 3DS was also released for Majora’s Mask 3D.
So far, Nintendo hasn’t celebrated Zelda’s 40th anniversary in any substantial way, outside of some Ocarina Of Time Lego sets, but now could be the time.
