Paying homage to immigrants, Ribbons of Prayer chapel dedicated at LA cathedral

Paying homage to the role of immigrants in our society, artist Lalo Garcia helped dedicate the new “Ribbons of Prayer,” chapel at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
The display features Garcia’s “El Viaje del Migrante” painting and other pieces of his artwork featuring sacred topics.
The chapel’s dedication of the chapel, the central house of faith for the Los Angeles Catholic Archdiocese, was timed to mark the International Day of Migrants and Refugees.
Attendees are invited to pray for anyone affected by immigration by writing the name of the person on a colored ribbon and tying it to a display in the chapel.
Later, the ribbons will become part of the archdiocese’s annual Mass in Recognition of all Immigrants, to be celebrated by Archbishop José H.Gomez. on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 3:30 p.m. at the cathedral.
Local parishes were also urged to bring handwritten ribbons and prayer petitions to be part of the Mass. Worshipers who cannot make it to the cathedral can submit a name online at https://lacatholics.org/ribbons-of-prayer.
“Since 2013, the annual Mass has brought parishioners together in prayer and celebration of the immigrant spirit of the United States, while expressing solidarity with immigrants and their families,” according to media release from the archdiocese.
