Last One Laughing stars Maisie Adam and Amy Gledhill have revealed which comedian they think will be Richard Ayoade’s toughest competition in season three.
Maisie and Amy appeared in the second series of Amazon Prime’s colossal hit, alongside the likes of Mel Giedroyc, Diane Morgan, and eventual winner David Mitchell, where a pack of the country’s greatest comedians are locked in a room, attempting to make each other laugh without laughing themselves.
A laugh warrants a strike – two strikes and you’re out.
In their series, they had the misfortune of competing against then-reigning champion Bob Mortimer, arguably the funniest man who ever lived, whose obscenely surreal sense of humour is the perfect strategy for LOL.
Mitchell, however, won’t be attempting to defend his title, and instead season one runner-up Richard, who barely smirked at all during his stint, will be returning instead.
The next batch of comics competing in the season 3 line-up includes Katherine Ryan, Harry Hill, Jon Richardson, and Roisin Conaty who moves from the control room to competitor with former Bake Off host Mel taking her place accompanying Jimmy.
It will take a true comedy titan with nerves of steel to take down the IT Crowd star but Maisie and Amy think they know who out of the season three line-up, can do it.
Speaking to Metro at the National Television Awards this week, the pair both named Lee Mack as Ayoade’s strongest competition.
‘I think Mack’s got it in the bag, I really do, ‘ said Maisie.
Amy agreed: ‘Lee Mack’s brain is so fast that he’s almost like an alien. Sam Campbell, who is also one of my friends, is also like an alien and he did so good.’
‘Lee is also consistently across from David Mitchell [on Would I Lie To You] who did really well in our season.’
Somehow Last One Laughing lost out to Mrs Brown’s Boys on the night, which viewers at home claimed proved ‘the public can’t be trusted’.
The blow is a real kick in the teeth given how excruciating filming Last One Laughing was for the pair.
‘No one can relax,’ said Amy. ‘I can’t stress enough: it’s not a nice day.’
‘Imagine your job is to make people laugh and you get asked to sit in a room with your respected colleagues and heroes that you grew up watching and for 10 hours they look at you like this,’ Maisie elaborated, giving a deathly blank stare – for an uncomfortably long time.
Last One Laughing returns to Amazon Prime Video in 2027.
