A 17-year-old girl was charged in connection to a shooting that left another girl critically wounded earlier this summer during a rowdy gathering in West Garfield Park.
The girl, who was not named because she’s underage, was arrested Wednesday in the Pullman neighborhood and charged with attempted first-degree murder, Chicago police said in a statement.
She allegedly shot another 17-year-old girl in her chest on July 5 during a large gathering in the the 3800 block of West Maypole Avenue. She was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
About nine minutes later, at least six people were also shot on the same block. They were all in good condition at Stroger and Mount Sinai Hospital: two 17-year-old boys, an 18-year-old woman and man, a 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old man.
The girl was not charged for the other shooting.
After the shootings, a longtime resident on the block described the gathering to the Sun-Times as “total chaos.”
