Adam Peaty’s sister has reportedly withdrawn her witness statement from the police investigation into her brother James’ alleged harassment.

Peaty’s brother, 34, from Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, was arrested in November last year over allegations he sent threats to the swimmer during his stag weekend in Hungary.

The Olympian’s estranged brother is said to be hoping the harassment investigation will now be dropped after the statement was withdrawn, according to a family source.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said at the time: ‘We arrested a 34-year-old man, from the Uttoxeter area, on November 11, 2025, on suspicion of harassment. The man was released on conditional bail while our enquiries continue.’

The 31-year-old swimmer was said to have been escorted from a plane by armed police after receiving the threatening texts, amid a public family rift in the lead-up to their Christmas nuptials at Bath Abbey.

Peaty was reportedly met by five uniformed police officers when his plane from Budapest arrived at Manchester Airport last year.

Peaty was said to have told his now-wife Holly Ramsay, who consulted her parents and then alerted the police.

The nine months since are said to have been ‘desperately worrying’ for Peaty’s builder brother James, according to an insider who spoke to the Daily Mail.

The married father-of-two was said to have been questioned over two days before being released on conditional bail.

It is now anticipated that James’ case will be shelved this week due to a lack of evidence, according to the Mail.

The insider told the publication: ‘Bethany had seen the supposed texts on Jamie’s phone. It was an older brother spouting off to his younger one, there was no harm meant and no threat.

‘Bethany later shared them with Holly. At the time she had been so taken in by Adam’s celebrity new lifestyle, it was a glimpse of a world she wanted too, and would do anything to please.’

James was once very close to his younger brother, and lived with him for a period in Leicestershire, before the public family fallout, which saw Peaty’s relationship with his mother Caroline break down.

His and James’ dad, Mark, told The Sun in November: ‘They’re brothers. They’ve always been close but like any normal family, brothers fight, argue, fall out, make up and start all over again. But it’s got out of hand.’

Meanwhile, Peaty’s sister Bethany was the only member of his family to attend his wedding with Gordon Ramsay’s daughter in December.

Bethany was also in attendance at Holly’s Soho Farmhouse hen do, where Caroline, who supported Peaty in securing three Olympic gold medals, was notably absent.

Staffordshire Police said this was not a matter they would comment on. A spokesperson told Metro: ‘The man who was arrested has been released under investigation after being on bail since his arrest.’

Metro contacted Adam Peaty’s representatives for comment on this story.
