Adam Ramsay-Peaty’s family beg him to ‘stop hurting’ his estranged mum

Adam Ramsay-Peaty’s fractured family feud has taken another painful turn after relatives publicly pleaded with the Olympic swimmer to reconcile with his estranged mother, saying: ‘Please don’t hurt her any more.’

The 31-year-old, who competed under his married name for the first time at this year’s Commonwealth Games, left Glasgow with three medals but without the gold he had hoped for.

After his races, the three-time Olympic champion admitted the ongoing fallout with his family had affected him, saying the situation had ‘taken its toll’ throughout his preparations.

Now, members of his family have hit back, insisting it was unfair to blame them for his performances and urging him to return home and repair their relationship.

‘Adam blaming his family for his failure at the Commonwealth Games is not right,’ a family insider told the Daily Mail.

‘Our message is, “Come home and talk to your mother. You know your mum will forgive you anything. Please don’t hurt her any more.”

‘You both need to heal. Even the public are turning against you. You have to be careful what you put out in the universe because it always comes back at you threefold.’

The source continued: ‘We never thought you would treat your family the way you have. All we have done is love you and support you.’

The emotional appeal comes after Adam became visibly upset while reflecting on his bronze-medal finish in the 100m breaststroke, admitting the turmoil away from the pool had affected him.

‘It’s hard because I know how hard I’ve worked,’ he said.

‘I know the s**t I’ve been through, which is no fault of my own. It does take a toll.’

While Adam thanked his wife, Holly Ramsay-Peaty, and those around him, he made no public mention of his parents.

‘Thankfully, I’ve got an incredible wife and an incredible support circle around me,’ he said.

His comments came after a week in which his family were notably absent from the stands. Instead of cheering him on in Glasgow, Adam’s parents, Caroline and Mark, reportedly watched from home in Staffordshire.

According to the insider, relatives gathered together to support him despite the ongoing estrangement.

‘There was a small family gathering willing him on,’ they said.

‘It’s a shame he didn’t get the piece of metal he wanted. But bronze is better than naught.

‘We’re still proud of him but he seems to have lost some focus, and he’s the first one to admit that.’

The rift between Adam and his family has been simmering since 2024, when wider members of the Peaty family were not invited to his engagement party or wedding to Holly, the daughter of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.

Relations have continued to deteriorate in the months since.

Earlier this week, Adam’s mother Caroline shared a rare public statement insisting she and her husband would continue supporting their son despite the estrangement.

‘He’s our son whom we love, whom we supported to reach his aspirations,’ she wrote.

‘We continue to support Adam from afar.

‘Our love, our time, our sacrifices were given freely with no expectation or financial reward, just genuinely given with the love any mother and father would do for their child.’

She also revealed that members of the family had been subjected to online abuse, describing some of the messages they had received as ‘vile’ and ‘truly evil’.

The latest intervention from relatives is even more direct.

Responding to Adam’s suggestion that family issues had affected his performances, the insider said: ‘Just take accountability of your own actions for once Adam instead of blaming us.

‘The hurt you feel over a medal does not compare to the hurt you have caused your mother.’

The source went on to accuse the swimmer of isolating himself from the people who had supported him throughout his career.

‘Don’t blame your family for your bronze. You need to look closer to home and in the mirror,’ they said.

‘We love you Adam, that’s all we have done, and are proud of what you have achieved but we don’t like who you have become.

‘You became famous. You met Holly and you changed.’

Despite the difficult week in the pool, Adam still left the Games with two bronze medals in the 50m and 100m breaststroke, as well as silver in the mixed 4x100m medley relay.

Looking ahead, he has already set his sights on the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028, saying he would have to ‘forget the experience I’ve had this week in my personal situation and learn from it very quickly.’

Meanwhile, Holly, who is expecting the couple’s first child together later this year, publicly stood by her husband throughout the championships.

Sharing a series of photographs from Glasgow on Instagram, she wrote: ‘Proud. Watching your comeback to championship racing has been inspiring.

‘It’s not been an easy journey but your determination and faith have never wavered and we will keep going, through the good and the bad together.’
