Beloved ‘Batman’ Star Passes Away at 87 & Tributes Pour In

John Nolan, a beloved actor best known for his roles in “Batman” and “Person of Interest,” passed away on Saturday, April 11, at the age of 87, the Stratford-Upon-Avon Herald reports.

No cause of death was listed.


Tributes Pour In For John Nolan

“Sad loss John Nolan had a long, memorable career. RIP,” one person posted.

“Rest in peace legend,” another person commented.

“Rest in peace to him. I enjoyed his movies, he was a great actor,” a fan wrote.

“Rest in peace, John Nolan, Christopher Nolan’s beloved uncle. You will be greatly missed,” another fan said.

“Loved him as one of the many villains of Person of Interest. And he was a stellar actor,” one fan expressed.


John Nolan’s Legacy

Nolan began his career in theater, eventually joining the Royal Shakespeare Company where he performed in projects such as “Julius Caesar” and “The Merry Wives of Windsor.”

He transitioned to television, earning a lead role in the BBC series “Daniel Deronda” (1970) and “Doomwatch.” He also made appearances in “The Prisoner,” “Silent Witness,” and “Return of the Saint.”

Some of his other credits include “Bequest to the Nation” (1973), “Terror “(1978), “The World Is Full of Married Men” (1979), The Sweeney,” “General Hospital,” “Target,” “Return of the Saint,” and “Enemy at the Door.”

He also got to work alongside his nephew, Christopher Nolan, in numerous projects, including “Following” (1998), “Batman Begins” (2005), and “The Dark Knight Rises” (2012), where he played Wayne Enterprises board member Douglas Fredericks. He also appeared in the 2017 film “Dunkirk.”

However, one of his most widely known roles was in the hit show “Person of Interest,” where he played John Greer. This show was created by his other nephew, Jonathan Nolan. He made his first appearance in the show’s second season, but went on to have a recurring role as one of the main antagonists.

Along with his nephews, he is survived by his wife, Kim Hartman, as well as his children and grandchildren.
