In a world of constant pushbacks and filming delays, it almost defies belief to see a show like Slow Horses consistently churn out season after season.
Since it first aired back in 2022, the Apple TV series – which is based on Mick Herron’s popular Slow Horses book series – has aired a whopping five seasons of television.
Now, there is even better news after it was confirmed that season six will air on Wednesday, September 16.
On top of that, the lid has been lifted on what fans can expect to see next.
Starring Gary Oldman as flatulent spymaster Jackson Lamb, the espionage drama follows a dysfunctional team of British intelligence agents who serve in a dumping ground department of MI5 known as Slough House.
Among these agents are River (Jack Lowden), hacker Roddy Ho (Christopher Chung) Catherine Standish (Saskia Reeves), Shirley Dander (Aimee-Ffion Edwards), Louisa Guy (Rosalind Eleazar), and JK Coe (Tom Brooke).
The newest season will now see the Slow Horses on the run as Diana Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas) embroils them all in a ‘fatally high-stakes game of retaliation and revenge’.
It is also believed that this series will be based on Mick’s sixth and seventh novels, Joe Country and Slough House.
The novel Joe Country sees the crew of MI5 discards head to a snowbound region of Wales to settle a deadly score.
In espionage slang, a ‘Joe’ refers to an egent out in the field.
‘Joe Country’ then refers to where agents go when they are physically out working an assignment and operating on their own.
Joining the cast is Bafta-winning actor Lenny Rush, who is best known for starring in Am I Being Unreasonable?
What did Metro think of Slow Horses season 5?
Read Deputy TV Editor Tom Percival’s five-star review below:
This comes after season five of Slow Horses debuted with a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score last year.
With River firmly back in London after his trip to France in season 4, Metro reviewed the season with five stars, writing: ‘Slow Horses season five is a bit of a triumph. I can’t think of a thing I didn’t like about it.
‘The cast is brilliant, the story’s engaging, and the dialogue sharper than ever.’
In contrast to previous seasons, the latest installment saw computer whiz Roddy take centre stage.
Season six of Slow Horses has been adapted for television by co-executive producer Gaby Chiappe, with Adam Randall returning to direct.
Slow Horses is available to watch on Apple TV.
