A wedding guest at Brooklyn Beckham’s 2022 wedding has detailed the simmering tension between the two families on the special day.
It’s no secret that the family has been embroiled in a tense feud, with Brooklyn airing all the dirty laundry in a lengthy Instagram statement at the start of the year, accusing his family of manipulating him.
Married to Nicola Peltz-Beckham, the couple lives in Los Angeles and are completely estranged from parents David and Victoria Beckham as well as his siblings, Romeo, Cruz and Harper.
Before the eldest son’s bombshell statement, however, rumours of a rift had been brewing for years – centred around trouble at their Palm Beach wedding in 2022, especially to do with his mother-in-law, Posh Spice’s behaviour.
There was chatter of an ‘inappropriate’ mother-son dance, a debacle over wedding outfits and a power struggle between the doting mum and bride-to-be. In fact, the husband-and-wife renewed their vows in August 2025 – to which none of the 27-year-old’s immediate family was invited.
Now, a wedding guest in attendance at the infamous ceremony has shed further light on exactly what went down to turn the whole day so sour, including an odd wedding speech from dad David.
In a tell-all to the Daily Mail, it was claimed Posh and Becks hadn’t been on speaking terms with Brooklyn for months leading up to the wedding.
Meanwhile, there was chaos in the lead-up with the Peltzes cycling through five different wedding planners as they reportedly desperately tried to keep the in-laws, especially Victoria, in the dark about the disorganisation.
During the wedding itself, one guest claimed that the speeches were another point of contention. While best men Romeo and Cruz teased Brooklyn about his declarations of love for Nicola, his footballer father took a different tack.
According to a source, after not speaking to Brooklyn for three months, he delivered a long speech exclusively about their father-and-son relationship with no mention of Nicola in sight.
A guest recalled: ‘The speech went on, and on. It was one of the oddest bits of the day. It was as if David was getting married to Brooklyn.’ He concluded his speech by offering some marriage advice, saying: ‘The most important thing is to make each other happy. And treat your Mrs like gold.’
In contrast, Nicola’s father, Nelson, delivered a short speech most focused on Ukraine.
When it comes to the famed mother-son dance, it is understood that Nicola had planned to dance with Brooklyn before singer Marc Anthony invited his mum on stage instead.
One guest shared of the ‘day-after’ brunch at the Peltzes’ extravagant house in Palm Beach: ‘Honestly? It was like someone had died.’
The DJ who played at their wedding, Fat Tony, also recently reflected on the dire circumstances the family has found themselves in.
He said: ‘Before judging, people should remember that two parents have lost their first-born son and a son has lost his parents. All families have dramas, but they just happen to be the Beckhams.’
In the four years since the wedding, the relationship between the two families has completely broken down, and Brooklyn has blocked them all on social media.
He’s notably been missing for major family milestones, including David’s Knighthood and Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremonies as well as Victoria’s Netflix show premiere and any of the World Cup festivities.
