Paris Fashion Week has introduced the world to many beautiful things over the years.
Christian Dior’s New Look. Alexander McQueen’s armadillo shoes. Zendaya wearing whatever impossible sculpture Law Roach has somehow persuaded her to put on.
This week, however, the internet discovered something arguably even more powerful: a six-foot-six Nigerian goalkeeper politely helping Cardi B into her seat.
His name is Maduka Okoye, although if you’ve been anywhere near TikTok recently you’ll know him better as ‘the unbelievably attractive goalkeeper everyone suddenly cares about despite never having watched a minute of Serie A football.’
The rapper was seated beside the footballer at Paris Fashion Week during Robert Wun’s couture show, where one short video managed to derail the internet’s entire attention span.
In the clip, Okoye gently helps Cardi B take her seat, taking her hand and helping her get settled. His chivalry earns an unmistakable look from the famously funny rapper, who had ‘Damn, he’s fine,’ written all over her face.
Social media immediately reacted as though they’d just watched the final scene of a romantic comedy.
‘Now that’s who she should be locking in,’ one fan declared.
Another comment, liked nearly 10,000 times, simply pleaded: ‘Like if you want them together.’
Others were convinced they had detected what relationship experts would probably describe as ‘a woman smiling politely at the person sitting next to her.’
‘Girl is blushing,’ one insisted. ‘She know he was fine. I saw that smirk,’ laughed another.
‘Damn they look good together, and he’s fine AH.’
Later, things got a bit more concrete as the rapper was spotted enjoying some drinks with Okoye on a terrace in the city of love, sharing conversation and smiles.
Obviously, that did little to quiet the symphony of speculation online. The internet has spent the last few weeks reacting to Maduka Okoye less like a footballer and more like a newly discovered natural resource.
The 26-year-old Udinese goalkeeper has become an unlikely global thirst trap after television cameras lingered on him during a Nigeria match earlier this summer, prompting millions of viewers to ask the same question: ‘Who is THAT?’
Within days he was being crowned ‘the world’s sexiest footballer’, with fans joking they’d suddenly developed a passionate interest in goalkeeping and others begging people to stop posting him because, as one viral comment put it, ‘my wife is on this app.’
The funniest part is that Nigeria isn’t even playing in the World Cup. Maduka Okoye has somehow become one of the breakout stars of an international tournament his national team didn’t qualify for.
That’s an extraordinary achievement.
Cardi, meanwhile, certainly looked the part in Paris, arriving in a dramatic scarlet gown that guaranteed she’d be one of the best-dressed people in the room.
Although, for perhaps the first time in recent memory, the internet spent almost as much time discussing the man sitting next to her.
Whether there’s anything romantic going on remains entirely speculative.
Neither Cardi nor Okoye has commented on the rumours, and a polite act of chivalry at a fashion show doesn’t exactly constitute hard evidence of a relationship.
Still, after Cardi’s recent romance with NFL player Stefon Diggs, fans appear more than happy to imagine her switching from football to…football.
