Christina Applegate has taken to social media to update fans on her life — and reveal a stunning new look.
The 54-year-old actress, who announced she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2021, is somewhat sporadic on social media these days.
However, just yesterday she checked in with her 1.2 million followers to let them know all is well, after it was previously reported she’d spent a prolonged amount of time in hospital.
Posting a video showing off her new hair refresh, which features blonder highlights and is styled in a middle parting, Christina said: ‘Fresh hair color, new weird spot on my cheek haha.’
The Dead to Me star then thanked her celebrity hairstylist — who has worked with everyone from her Netflix co-star Linda Cardellini to Octavia Spencer, Halle Berry, and Laura Dern — for ‘brightening up [her] cloudy day.’
Christina signed off, sending love to both her hairdresser and to her fans, writing: ‘love to you all out there.’
Following the post, plenty of Christina’s followers took to the comment section to welcome her back, compliment her new look, and generally just wish her well.
‘I’ve missed you!!!! You look great!’ one person said, as another penned: ‘Looking amazing as always.’
‘You’re a national treasure!’ a third shared, while a fourth echoed: ‘You are truly powerful.’
Fellow celebs also shared their well wishes, from the aforementioned Octavia Spencer, who posted a string of fire emojis, to Chelsea Handler, who sent the actress three yellow hearts.
Christina has been very open about her health struggles since her 2021 diagnosis.
While filming the final season of the Netflix show Dead to Me, Christina said her MS significantly affected her ability to perform.
The actress credited fellow leading lady Linda Cardellini and showrunner Liz Feldman for supporting her through, from fiercely advocating for breaks to making reasonable adjustments to her filming schedule.
Speaking to BuzzFeed in 2022, Liz said: ‘We were stuck with the story that we had to tell, but also, that’s the story Christina wanted to tell.
‘She chose to finish. We did it on her terms, and nothing in the script changed, really, at all. We did whatever we needed to do to accommodate her in terms of blocking.’
The same year, Christina received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which marked her first public appearance following her multiple sclerosis diagnosis.
She was joined by former co-stars Katey Sagal and David Faustino, alongside Linda Cardellini and her daughter, Sadie.
Christina used the opportunity to praise her family, saying through tears: ‘To my family who has spoken here today, you are my everything.’
She also gave an emotional shoutout to Sadie: ‘The most important person in this world is my daughter. You are so much more than even you know.
‘You are so beautiful and kind and loving and smart and interesting. I’m blessed every day that I get to wake up and take you to school…thank you for standing beside me through all of this.’
Just one year later, in 2023, Christina announced her on-screen retirement, revealing that she would not be able to act on camera anymore due to her illness.
However, at the time, she said that she would still be open to voice-over work.
Thankfully, Christina hasn’t ditched the limelight altogether, as earlier this year she released her memoir, You With the Sad Eyes.
