Fans Rally Around Olivia Wilde After Viral Red Carpet Video

Several social media users shared supportive comments about the “Don’t Worry Darling” star after the SFGate clip began getting attention online.

One fan questioned why the post had sparked a conversation about Wilde’s appearance at all.

“Why is this even a post? She’s beautiful. We’re living in such a world where everyone has to be perfect. You can’t be too fat; you can’t be too thin…Like, who cares? Look at people on the inside, not the outside,” the comment said.

Another person said they saw Wilde in person while the video was being filmed.

“Oof, wrong lens for sure. I was background on this … and she is breathtaking [in real life] ❤️,” the person wrote on Instagram.

Another fan also pointed to the way the video was captured.

“It’s unflattering lighting and a bad camera lens. She otherwise looks beautiful and is aging gracefully,” they said.

Other social media users made similar comments about the camera setup. Some pointed to the phone settings, possible filters, red carpet lighting, and lens choice as factors that may have affected the way the “Wake Up” director appeared in the clip.

Wilde attended the San Francisco International Film Festival on April 24 for “The Invite,” which opened the festival at the Castro Theatre.

The movie follows a married couple whose relationship is already strained. After they invite their mysterious upstairs neighbors over for dinner, the night takes several unexpected turns, according to IMDb.

Wilde stars in the film alongside Penélope Cruz, Seth Rogen, and Edward Norton.

Because the movie is set in San Francisco, Wilde spoke to SFGate about how the film used the city as part of the story.

“I think we really took advantage of everything that I love so much about this city,” Wilde told SFGate. “It’s such an incredible cultural melting pot, and you can feel that. It sets the tone for our film.”

After its Sundance debut, “The Invite” drew major interest before A24 picked up the film in a deal worth more than $10 million, according to SFGate.

The movie is set for a limited theatrical release on June 26.

Wilde has previously talked about the pressure that can come with public attention.

In a 2022 Elle interview, Wilde rejected the idea that making public-facing work means accepting constant personal criticism.

“… it’s as though the general public feels that if you are making something that you’re selling to the public, you somehow have accepted that your life will be torn to shreds by a pack of wolves,” she told the outlet. “No, that’s actually not part of the job description. Never was.”

Wilde also shared a positive message about confidence in a Vogue interview the year prior.

“We want to celebrate the idea of loving one’s own body and feeling confident because you feel beautiful and the idea that the rituals we practice for ourselves are opportunities to celebrate ourselves,” she said. “Beauty isn’t an obligation in order to interact with the rest of the world. This is about interacting with ourselves and celebrating ourselves.”
