Girlfriend of Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Anthony Kiedis Proudly Defends Their 33-Year Age Gap

Eileen Kelly is speaking out about her relationship with Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis and making it clear she is not bothered by the public conversation around their 33-year age gap.

In a recent essay for Vogue, Kelly, 30, opened up about dating Kiedis, 63, calling the experience “nuanced” and saying people tend to see their age difference as either “alarming or impressive.” While this is her first time dating someone significantly older, she admitted she sometimes jokes with friends that she may have been “missing out” her whole life.

Kelly said one of the biggest differences is being with someone who has had more time to figure life out. She wrote that there is something appealing about dating a man who already has perspective and stability, adding that Kiedis seems genuinely excited to be with her and not like he is waiting for someone “better.”

“There is something to be said for a man who’s simply had more time to get his s— together,” she wrote, adding that he knows he is “one lucky bastard.”

She explained that when they first met at a birthday party, the age gap did not immediately stand out. Instead, she was simply drawn to someone she found “interesting and magnetic” and initially assumed they would just become friends.

As their relationship became more serious, Kelly said she quickly noticed how strongly people react to age-gap relationships, especially when the man is older.

Kelly revealed in the essay that strangers have asked her if Kiedis is her father or told him, “Your daughter is so beautiful,” which she described as awkward every single time. She also said some people assume she must be a gold-digger.

She even shared that one friend reacted negatively when she revealed the relationship, saying the friend looked “visibly disappointed,” and the two now speak less often.

Kelly pushed back on those assumptions by making it clear that she is financially independent.

“I have my own money, my own career, and I have my own home,” she wrote.

She also pointed out what she sees as a double standard. She noted that older women dating younger men are often praised, while older men dating younger women are more quickly labeled “creepy,” and younger women are assumed to have “daddy issues.”

Kelly said she believes real connection can exist across generations and that people often oversimplify relationships like hers.

She and Kiedis reportedly bonded over a shared connection to a small town in Hawaii where both had spent time over the years. Kelly said they realized they had likely crossed paths long before officially meeting.

Kiedis has previously been in several age-gap relationships, including with models Helena Vestergaard, Wanessa Milhomem and Heather Christie, with whom he shares his son, Everly Bear.

Despite the outside commentary, Kelly said the reality of their relationship is far less dramatic than people assume, describing it simply as “two people doing the ongoing, unremarkable work of moving through life together.”
