Gogglebox star George Gilbey’s mum has revealed his final words to her before his death.

Gilbey was laid to rest last week after his death on March 27 aged 40 when a ‘freak accident’ at work saw him fall 80ft at a site in Shoebury, Southend-on-Sea, where he was working as an electrician.

It was confirmed that the TV star, who also competed on Celebrity Big Brother in 2014 and reached the final, died at the scene after falling through a skylight.

‘[Gilbey] was working on a roof when he fell through a plastic skylight and landed on the ground below,’ said the coroner’s officer Deborah Frost.

His injuries were ‘consistent with a fall from height’, the post-mortem examination stated, the BBC reports.

Now Gibley’s mother Linda McGarry – who starred alongside her son in Gogglebox – has revealed his last words to her before he died were, ‘I love you.’

‘It was an honour for him to have been my son. We had a blast for 40 years,’ she told The Sun.

‘He phoned me at 9.30 on the morning and said he was working – and asked me for his “breakfast money”.

Linda remembered how she put £30 in his account so he could get food, and he ‘seemed fine’.

She explained: ‘He had a drink the night before, and liked a bottle of white wine or two, but was happy that he was working. He ended the phone call by saying, “I love you” like he usually did. I treasure those words.’

She revealed how George was trying to earn some money to get to London to be near his daughter

Linda – who lost her husband and Gibley’s stepdad Pete McGarry to cancer in 2021 aged 71 – explained to the publication how ‘nothing will bring him back’ so she just has to ‘go with it’.

She revealed how Gilbey – who appeared on the Channel 4 reality show between 2013 and 2018 – was trying to earn some money to rent a room in London and be near his eight-year-old daughter, Amelie.

In a statement shared with Metro.co.uk, a spokesperson for Gogglebox said: ‘George was part of the Gogglebox family for eight series alongside his mum Linda and step-dad Pete.

‘Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Linda, and George’s family and friends at this very sad time. The family have asked for privacy.’

This comes after a man was arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter but has since been released under investigation.
